forsake me not when my strength faileth.
Psalms 71:9
A 50-year history of caring
It all began with the nursing home in 1976. The Apostolic Christian Church of Rittman, located across the road, along with neighboring congregations in Mansfield and Akron, had sensed a growing need for a facility that could provide Christ-like compassionate care for the elderly of their communities. As was stated in the Home’s dedication, “We want God’s name to be first in the Home, and we want to also invite, or shall we say, insist that those who work and labor there, whether it be for compensation or for charity, that each one shall give forth out of the goodness of their heart that which encourages the old, the feeble, and those who have need of their help.” (Rudy Graf, Sept. 5, 1976).
As demand increased, thanks to our reputation for excellent care, the initial 51 rooms were augmented with additions in 1984 and 1994 bringing the total to 75 skilled nursing beds. An assisted living wing was added as well. A spacious new therapy room and chapel were added in 2015.
The independent senior living neighborhood of duplexes grew over the years as well with additional units added. The peaceful, shady streets became known as Maple Grove.
Due to increasing demand for assisted living with comfortable, resort-style amenities, Aspen Square was built in 2025. This beautiful facility caters to seniors who need a little help with activities of daily living but still enjoy their independence and mobility.
No matter which part of our senior living campus you or your loved one experience, you’ll appreciate the Christ-like compassion shown to each resident and the high standards we hold ourselves to. This is because both management and staff know that we are ultimately serving the Lord.
Looking back
“This project was undertaken in the faith that God our Heavenly Father, guided and advised us in this undertaking. We have felt His blessing throughout the construction of this edifice, and now we also hope and have faith that the same God will guide us in the operation of this Home.”
Ben Hartzler, 1976
